Letter from Bessie Parkes to Barbara Bodichon, addressed from 17 Wimpole Street, 1861-04-19
Scope and Contents
Bessie is sending Barbara notices and a catalogue of the exhibition including her paintings and mentions interest in purchases. The exhibition is to close the next day. She hopes Barbara will authorise her to send the sold pictures to the buyers and distribute others with print sellers. She says in a postscript that Mr Gambart will not charge Barbara commission.
Bessie discusses the balance of articles in the English Woman’s Journal and problems with certain religious and political topics, including articles written by Dr Bodichon and Dr Tuke. Langham Place is ‘peaceful and happy’ although Adelaide [Procter] is ill, The whole of Langham Place [EWJ and Victoria Press staff] had been to the private view of the exhibition. Bessie has seen Marian [George Eliot] and discussed religious and political matters. Two pages.
