Letter from [Bessie Parkes] to [Barbara Leigh Smith], addressed from Florence, 1857-05-19
Scope and Contents
Bessie feels that if the Waverley can be brought to London, as Captain Smailes suggests, they could have their own book shop, possibly with Isa Craig in charge, space for exhibiting pictures etc. She will devote herself to it from the moment she returns on June 15th. She is anxious to show Emma [Evers] Paris. She has told Mrs Jameson of Barbara’s impending marriage but no one else. She is enjoying Florence, apart from the heat, but will be glad to be back at work again.
