Letter from Bessie Parkes to [Barbara Leigh Smith], addressed from Freshwater [Isle of Wight], 1855-09-11
Scope and Contents
Bessie is hoping to get ‘Aspasia’ out as a Christmas book. She has sent a long letter to the Birmingham Journal and to William Ransom about Florence Nightingale. She has been ‘full of M M H’ [Max Hays] and says she will write more of what she feels and thinks about her one day. She has sent ‘Maul Sticks’ [probably Barbara’s ink drawing entitled ‘Ye Newe Generation’: see GCPP Bodichon 8/6] to Miss [Charlotte] Cushman. She rhapsodises over the flowers on the marshes nearby.
