Letter from [Bessie Parkes] to Barbara Leigh Smith, 1847-12-24
Scope and Contents
Bessie discusses the subject of reasoning; the question of school religious and moral teaching; and Hume [? David Hume, 1711-76, philosopher], asking what Barbara thinks of him. She doesn’t like the Greek drama in translation but is enjoying a critique of Greek drama. She has read Miss [Maria] Edgeworth’s Orlandino. She asks Barbara if she would advise her to read Carlyle though she feels it will not do her any good. Two page letter, together with one page transcript of the first half.
