Letters from Louise Swanton Belloc to her grandchildren, Marie and Hilaire Belloc, 1878-01-31 - 1881-05-04
Scope and Contents
Mostly in French. All addressed from Paris. There are ten letters to Marie, in which she asks after Bessie's health; asks Marie to write to her; exhorts her to study hard; asks for news of Hilaire; and gives news of family members including Marie's Tante Louise [Redelsperger] and cousins Jacques and Juliette, and Tante Lily [Ballot] and cousin René [Millet].
In a letter dated 18 January 1881 she mentions Mme Bodichon, Mme Cross [George Eliot] and Adelaide de Montgolfier. There is one letter only to Hilaire, 9 June 1880, in which she says she has read with pleasure his description of 'Elkington's works'.
