 File
Reference Code: GBR/0271/GCPP Hollond 3/3/2

Scope and Contents

Letters, drafts, notes etc referring to Marjorie Hollond's re-appointment as a lecturer in the Faculty of Economics and Politics [there do not appear to be any papers relating to her original appointment in 1926]. With these are papers relating to her resignation from her Newnham post in 1933 as well as earlier papers relating to the financial implications of such a move.
1) The letters relating to MTH's re-appointment include drafts in Harry Hollond's hand (4 sheets) and MTH's (2 sheets) concerning her wish to retain a full lectureship in the Faculty of Economics and her intention of giving up the Directorship of Studies at Newnham to allow more time for research. There is a cyclostyled letter from the Secretary of the Faculty Board to the Secretary of the General Board about a decision to introduce part-time lectureships: these to be offered to senior faculty members who have extensive college duties. All 1932.
2) The letters relating to her resignation from the Newnham appointment include drafts in HAH's and MTH's hands - the latter about Mrs Robinson [Joan Robinson] taking up the appointment. There are also letters to MTH from Joan Robinson, E M Hampdon and Miss Strachey, all May-July 1933.
3) The financial papers include a letter from K M Peace, Girton, 24 June 1930 about Council's adoptive Finance Committee proposal, should MTH give up Newnham teaching, as well as letters from the Financial Board about her pension and life assurance premiums 1929-1937. Tucked in with these papers is a cutting from the Sunday Times 1 November 1925 covering the proposed statutes at Cambridge allowing women eligibility in all teaching posts.
