Scope and Contents
Letters and notes referring to Marjorie Tappan's application to Girton and Newnham in June 1923, as Lecturer and Director of Studies in Economics [actual appointment made by Girton].
1) Five pages of rough notes in MTH's hand, in support of her application, with names of those who will provide references.
2) Three letters and 1 card from Bertha Phillpotts [Girton] to MT 30 May 1923 (inviting MT's application), 10 June 1923, 21 June 1923 (enclosing a separate typed formal letter of appointment), 1 August 1923. The appointment confirms that MT may continue her work at LSE 2 days per week.
3) Three letters from BA Clough [Newnham] 30 May 1923, 18 June and 22 June 1923, on similar lines.
4) Two cards from MG Jones [Girton] re meeting MT at Girton, all July 1923.
5) Three letters from Marjorie Robinson [Newnham] re meeting MTH, all July 1923.
6) Letter from Mary Clover [Girton] enclosing 3 pages of printed regulations about the appointment as Director of Studies (1909) 22 June 1923.
7) Letters from Professor and Mrs Alfred Whitehouse about giving MT references May and June 1923.
