Letters written by Ena Burton to her parents: File 7, 1941 - 1945
Scope and Contents
Letters written while teaching English at Dame Allan’s Girls’ School, Newcastle upon Tyne. The letters are addressed variously from Ambleside [the school was evacuated there during Word War II]; Carsphairn, Cheviot View, Ponteland; and 16 Brighton Grove, Fenham, Newcastle upon Tyne. Several of the letters mention Miss F A Elliott, head teacher of the school, who had been there since 1933 and had studied English at Girton 1916-19. In later letters in this file E B discusses at length the prospect of taking up a teaching post in Jamaica.
