Personal diaries: Volume 4, 1933-04 - 1934-12
Scope and Contents
This volume was written mostly while Margaret Anderson was living in Barbados. It is paginated 1-118. The latter part of the volume is blank. It contains fewer illustrations than the previous three volumes, though it does contain some postcards and a few photographs. The first few entries were written at Wellingham House near Lewes in Sussex (home of M A’s sister, Betty Browning) then from 17 April on board ship for Barbados; and the entry for 29 April consists of a four page description of her wedding day in Barbados. The remainder of this volume consists largely of notes on social events, sightseeing and the flora and fauna of Barbados, including pen and ink drawings and watercolour sketches (there are many more drawings and sketches of the local flora and fauna in M A’s letters to Betty - see GCPP Anderson 1/6). There are some pages of gardening notes at the back of the volume.
