This section includes correspondence on both personal and academic matters. It is arranged chronologically. It includes in particular an almost complete chronological correspondence series covering 1879-1943 [GCPP Strong 2/1]. There are also files of correspondence organised apparently by ES herself under categories of acquaintance, such as archaeologists, clerics and diplomats; also a number of miscellaneous files of correspondence from which the cataloguer has attempted to draw any salient subjects. In several instances there are further letters from the same correspondents in GCPP Strong 3: Individual Correspondents.
