Scope and Contents
Photocopy of extracts from Elspeth Giles’ diary 24 December 1920 - 9 January 1921, namely pages 12-26 [the original diary was paginated: page numbers have been added in pencil in square brackets where they do not appear on the photocopy]. Christmas events include tea with the Laughtons on Christmas eve; a family gathering at Milton on Christmas day; a walk to Landbeach; Christmas dances and games; and Elspeth Giles’ sister Margaret's engagement to O B Wallisch. 30 December: Elspeth Giles decides to give up living in Girton College and live at home instead to economise since Margaret is going to be married. 5 January: Elspeth Giles is told by her doctor she should leave Cambridge and live by the sea. 8 January: she packs up her belongings at Girton in preparation for leaving the 'beloved place for ever’.

Conditions Governing Access
The collection was closed until 31 December 2018, at the request of the donors. The only exception was GCPP Giles 3/1 which was closed until 31 December 2020.
