'My Attitudes and Beliefs - About Life in General', 1963
Scope and Contents
The original typescript of this document was composed by Veronica Forrest (as she was then known) at the age of sixteen. Between the ages of sixteen and nineteen (1963-1966) she added annotations, notes, clarifications and other comments, as evidenced by her hand-written remarks throughout the document and on the back of typescript pages. The document, which is a manifesto or ars poetica of sorts, comprises three sections: 'About life in General'; 'My Ideas About Poetry in Particular'; and 'Personal Poetry Projects and Purposes'. It appears that the original of the document no longer exists. A copy of the document was given by VF-T's mother to Anthony Barnett while he undertook research for the 1990 Collected Poems and Translations. Gareth Farmer subsequently made a copy of this document, which he then gave to the Archive. Most of the annotations in the document are VF-T’s own. For example, on the first page she has written 'c. 1963', presumably at a date later than 1963. However, notes relating to age, pen colours and VF-T’s other work (for example, 'cf thesis') are Anthony Barnett's.
