Specimens of correspondence in Judaeo-Spanish, 1915 - 1919
Scope and Contents
This material provides much information about the language in the 20thC, with examples in both Hebrew and Roman characters (chiefly the latter). Typescript and manuscript, 1915-19, nearly all in transliteration, mostly 1918-19, with a few notes. Probably mainly censorship material. Written from a variety of places (thus supplying many variants of the language), including: the USA (New York, Seattle, Chicago, Los Angeles, New Brunswick); Canada; Malta; Manchester; London; Jerusalem; Salonica. This collection is thought to have been mainly in the possession of Dr Crews' brother, Professor Norman Jopson.
