The papers listed here comprise a small miscellany of letters and personal memorabilia which were found amongst the papers of Margaret Swainson Anderson.

Biographical / Historical

Frank Anderson was born in London in 1902. He attended Rugby School before training as an electrical engineer and working as a telephone engineer in Argentina and Barbados, 1925-36. It was in Barbados in April 1933 that he married Margaret Swainson Willis (Girton 1921), whose family had for many years been friends and neighbours in Cambridge. They remained in Barbados until early 1936 while he worked for the Barbados Telephone Company and also did a number of early outside broadcasts. He joined the BBC (Engineering Division) in 1936, transferring to the post of Outside Broadcasting Manager in 1940. He was involved in BBC sound reception for the Coronation procession in London in 1953 (see GCPP Anderson 3/3). Margaret (Nan), daughter of Frank and Margaret, was born in London in 1937.
