Scope and Contents

Emily Jane Pfeiffer (1827-90) was a poet, a journalist and a strong supporter of the women’s movement. She left most of her estate to trustees to be used to assist women’s causes. One of the trustees, J G Fitch, was married to a member of the Committee of the Society for Promoting the Employment of Women. On his recommendation, £2000 from Emily’s bequest was awarded to the Society, specifically for use for technical training of women.
The archives of the Pfeiffer Fund listed here comprise a record of repayment of loans, correspondence, and extracts from minutes.
