Biographical / Historical

The Women’s Employment Federation was established in 1933. It became the National Advisory Centre on Careers for Women in 1970. The Society for Promoting the Training of Women administered some of its loan funds collaboratively from 1935 with the Women’s Employment Federation, as part of the Co-operating Loan Committee (along with the Fawcett Society, the Union of Jewish Women, the Soroptimist Club of Greater London and the Girls of the Realm Guild). Applications were pooled where necessary and passed to whichever fund was relevant. This joint committee was dissolved in about 1960. The SPTW took over the funds of the NACCW in the 1970s and amalgamated them with its own Loan Training Fund.
