Caroline Ashurst Biggs Memorial Loan Fund papers, 1890 - 1898
Scope and Contents
After the death of Caroline Ashurst Biggs in 1889, a fund was set up in her memory [early in 1890]. At the suggestion of Helen Blackburn, it was amalgamated into the administration of the Society for Promoting the Employment of Women in 1899 [see General Committee minutes of the Society for Promoting the Employment of Women 29 January 1899 at GCIP SPTW 2/1/1/2 and note in CABMLF minutes 22 June 1898 at GCIP SPTW 2/3/1]. The committee of the fund granted interest free loans to women and girls over the age of 16 who were about to enter on a course of professional or technical training.
