Letter to Robert Norgate, president, 1572-06
Scope and Contents
He trusts Norgate to provide for good order in the college; Parliament is prorogued on Monday next, whereupon Aldrich will take a journey to the west. Norgate is to pay sums due from the college as well as he may and on his return the college creditors will not long remain unsatisfied. Parliament has granted the college a licence to alienate property with the proviso that the purchase money be spent on land.. [The college sold several town properties at this time to purchase the manor of Wilbraham Ricotts and the advowson of Little Wilbraham.] Most of the college plate is in pawn to Dr Baro; he should be asked, if it be not already redeemed, to allow the college the use of it for commencement. Discussion of deployment of college funds. The dean is to be cuationed.
