Notes from the minutes:
27 Jul 1883 ‘The case of a patient named E Cartwright was reported and the Secretary was directed to call MR F Bailey’s attention to the matter’.
11 Aug 1883 ‘..it would be advantageous to the patients that a properly qualified dental surgeon be appointed to the hospital’. As recommended by the Medical Officers.
29 Aug 1883 Report by Superintendent of Volunteer Fire Brigade recommending iron doors to separate wards in East Wing from flammable liquid kept in the cellar.
19 Sep 1883 Matron authorised to pay out of the Samaritan Fund 3s for a patient's (not named) railway fare to Bury St Edmunds
5 Dec 1883 ‘Mr Peck reported that a purse containing 6s, 6 postage stamps and a pair of ear-rings had been stolen from a patient on Hatton Ward, resolved that a notice offering 10s reward for information re the robbery be placed in the ward’.
19 Dec 1883 Reported that ‘the purse and contents had been found’.
9 Dec 1883 (p108) Funeral expenses of a patient (not named) who died in hospital to be paid.
23 Jan 1884 The Governors resolve that in future no patients known to be afflicted with erysipilis [erysipelas] be admitted (2 wards closed because of this infection in the previous year)
28 Jan 1884 Medical Officers say resolution of 23 Jan 1884 re erysipilis sufferers is improper as money was raised especially for new wards for receiving infectious cases.
13 Jan 1884 Desirable that new buildings for sleeping and other accommodation for 26 probationers and nurses be erected in the hospital grounds at a cost not exceeding £1000
2 May 1884 Notices to be printed and posted in the wards as follows:
‘Visitors are strictly forbidden to give to patients anything to eat or drink. Anyone found doing so will not be allowed to visit the Hospital again’.
6 Oct 1884 £1000 consuls sold to pay for new building
8 Oct 1884 Complaint re ‘cruel neglect of the nurse in Alice Ward to Louisa Brunton’ (see p294 for correspondence in full from Miss Asby (a subscriber) and John Bonnett, Secretary.

28 Jan 1885 Appointment of Collector and Canvasser (Mr F C Hutt) and conditions
22 Apr 1885 Patient Robinson sends a donation of £4 and Dr Branbury explains how he came to be admitted.
5 May 1885 Mr Hutt required to attended the Finance Committee to account for irregularities in his accounts as Collector

20 May 1885 Cambridge Female Refuge Managing Committee write complaining that an applicant had been refused admission (see page 428)
24 Jun 1885 Sunday Times offer of free papers for the use of patients
2 Sep 1985 Master of Jesus College has portrait in oils of the late Bishop Turton which he wishes to donate to Addenbrooke’s Hospital. Offer accepted as the Bishop had been a benefactor to the Hospital.
9 Dec 1885 Matron (Miss Browne) requires a ‘serious operation’ and can be accommodated in one of the new wards letter from G M Humphry.
16 Dec 1885 Letter of reprimand and final warning to the cook for giving away bread in large quantities much of which could have been used and the rest put in the swill bin.
28 Dec 1885 (p543) George Paget offers framed letter of Dr Addenbrooke to the hospital on behalf of owner, Rev G F Browne.
