16 Feb 1876 17 Children causing annoyance to adult patient according to Matron- Medical Staff agree there should be separate wards for children even thought annoyance not as bad as reported.
14 Feb 1877 Committee appointed to enquire into increased expenditure report that ‘the service of a Matron better skilled at housekeeping that the present Matron are needed’ Matron Mrs E Sale advised to resign – which she did. (p309)
28 Feb 1877 Committee on expenditure produce statistics from hospitals in Derbyshire, Oxford, London and Birmingham relating to average length of stay of inpatients. Addenbrooke’s compared unfavourably. The Committee suspect a ‘want of vigilance in discharging in- patients and reducing them to out – patients as soon as it may properly be done’.
7 Mar 1877 Committee on Expenditure want better accounting by Matron and question whether she is the right person to dispense wine and spirits.
6-9 Apr 1877 Committee re appointment of Matron resolved ‘it is desirable to obtain the service of a Matron capable of Superintending both departments (housekeeping and nursing)
8 May 1877 Alice Fisher appointed as Matron with £70 pa and board.
17 Oct 1877 Committee formed to consider admission and accommodation of Probationers (see p492)
30 Nov 1877 Improvements of Funds Committee can funds be invested in other than Government Securities? Not desirable at present.
11 Dec 1877 Sub committee on Probationers. After conferring with Miss Fisher it was recommended a completely new scheme details on p520.
