Scope and Contents

Indexed at back. Notes the following: names of visiting chaplains; a "fire proof box to be procured for the muniments of the Hospital", pp 199-200.
26 Oct 1853 Mary Ann Smith, parish unknown, given 5/- from the Samaritan Fund
30 Nov 1853 ‘Dr W. moved that when the gas was laid on for the kitchen, that it also be laid on in the Surgery.’ Recommended to the Repairing Committee where it was agreed.
8 Mar 1854 ‘Ordered that in future no medical certificate be given to outpatients without containing a statement that [the patient] is unable to follow his usual employment.’
12 Apr 1854 Thomas Chipperfield, parish unknown, given 10/- from the Samaritan Fund
23 May 1855 Rev. Frederick Thackeray sent a letter to the Board offering them a picture of his late father Dr Frederic Thackeray to the Hospital, they accepted the picture.
5 Dec 1855 Anne Covell, parish unknown, given £3 from the Samaritan Fund, put into the hands of Rev. Emery for her benefit
30 Apr 1856 ‘Notice of caution to the Nurses: All provisions provided for their diet or the outpatients’ diet can only be consumed in the hospital, and any remaining continues to be hospital [sic]. Anyone taking food out of the Hospital on any pretence whatsoever will be instantly dismissed.’
The practice of giving details of patient statistics appears to have stopped in 1855 (2nd half) and 1866. The headings are written out, as before, in the minutes of weekly meetings but numbers rarely entered, the only exception being on 13 Aug 1856.
25 Jun 1856. Resolved that wages for nurses to be £14 a year rising to £15 a year after 5 years’ service and £16 a year after 10 years’ service.
15 Oct 1856 Thomas Lee of Chesterton, outpatient to become in-patient
30 Oct 1856 Agreed to introduce the water from the Cambridge Waterworks Co. but the pump in the laundry not to be interfered with, being ‘peculiarly good for drinking purposes’.
17 Dec 1856 Reference to Miss Bishop [? Matron] being given £7-3s-11d from the Samaritan Fund as per Book of Payments. Hence names of patients receiving sums from the Samaritan Fund unlikely to be mention in the minutes.
The numbers of patients in Patient Statistics is now being entered routinely at weekly meetings from 25 Mar 1857 to Jun 1857, than rarely appears again in 1857.
6 Jan 1858 Donation of £5 from Mr W. M. Macintosh in appreciation of the treatment he received in 'less affluent times'.
Patient numbers start to be recorded again after 21 Apr 1858 to June.
