Poor Law Amendment Act (Grouping of Parishes into Unions)
Extract from Minutes 31 Dec 1838:
Proposed that such overseers of parishes as have thro’ the regulation of the Poor Law Commissioners discontinued their subscriptions to the hospital be allowed to renew their subsections without paying up their arrears provided they have not in the meantime recommended any patient in which event they be required to pay all arrears previous to their being entitled to subscribe a fresh.
Resolved that the Secretary write to the several parishes whose subscriptions are in arrears informing them of the resolution of the auditors of the Unions to pass hereafter parish subscriptions as an item in their parish accounts, and inviting them to pay up the arrear now due.
