Letter thanking her for her kind remarks on his new book ['Orpheus and Greek Religion'], 1935-03-28 - 1935-03-29
Scope and Contents
His comments about early Christians adopting pagan symbols were mainly the fruit of his Asia Minor travels and conversations with Calder. It was difficult to distinguish between Christian or pagan monuments but Calder had made something of a hobby of this - they had come across a whole village of these during their Asia Minor expedition in 1932. His comments in the book about 'the growth of the simple story of Jesus into the myth of Christ' has caused some comment in Cambridge. He had been appointed to the newly vacant post of University Lecturer in Classics after the death of Lawson at Pembroke and was preparing a new short course of lectures on Greek Religion. Their daughter, Anne Katherine, had been christened in London and much admired. With envelope.
