These lectures appear to have been early lectures during Mason's time at Exeter. Includes the following lectures: Literary criticism in the Renaissance (including reference to time under Leavis); Roman Blinkers or Sidney and the Renaissance; Pope and the French; Bouhours, Le Bossu and Rapin; Boileau and the Cult of Simplicity; Boileay's L'art poetique; Boileau's heirs and Pope's predecessors. The following lectures appear on the lecture list but are wanting: Pope's university years; Pope's Essay on Criticism.
