Boat Club notes in The Griffin for Michaelmas 1912 record: Following on the successes of the Lents and Mays the Boat Club decided to repeat the experiment of three years ago in sending the boat to Henley. The boat was entered for the Thames Challenge Cup, in which Merton, Oxford, was drawn in the first round. Having been under the able coaching of Mr Milligan of Pembroke, during the previous fortnight, the crew were able to put up a very close race. A deep debt of gratitude is owed to all those who so generously contributed to the success of the project, both in a monetary way and by personal help. It is to be hoped that their kindness will be justified in the far-reaching effect of the venture upon the Boat Club, culminating in yet another visit to Henley. The modern Henley Fund was set up or formalised by the Governing Body in April 1939, with the resolution: to allow for the present year an appeal to be made to former members of the Boat Club for funds to send a crew to Henley.. It was desirable that a permanent Henley Fund should be set up by the Amalgamation Club for the future. Subsequently the Henley Fund has always been administered by the Amalgamation Club.
