2. John, Earl of Rutland, Frederick Howard Esq., second son of Charles, Earl of Carlisle, William Montague, son and heir of apparent of William Montague Lord Chief Baron of Court of Exchequer, and John Edisbury, Doctor of Laws
ASSIGNMENT [Bargain and sale / lease to vest?] of all messuages, farms, lands and premises etc in recited mortgages plus all buildings erected by Sir George Downing, to hold for residues of respective terms according to trusts and uses as given in Indenture of Settlement of even date.
Endorsed: 'Assignment from Sir George Downing and George Downing his son, to John, Earl of Rutland, Frederick Howard and William Montague the Younger Esqs., and Doctor John Edisbury, of three forfeited mortgages made by Sir Anthony Cage, Sir John Jacob and Robert Murriell, the inheritance of which is not yett purchased, being a Settlement made therefore upon the marriage of the said George Downing the sonn with the lady Catherine Cecill.'

1. Between Sir Anthony Cage of Long Howe, Cambridge and Rose Hale of Kings Walden (Mortgagee) - 19 Dec 15 Charles I (1639) MORTGAGE BY DEMISE FOR 1000 YEARS for £4930 of all messuages and lands etc in Croydon / Crawden, Cambridge [fully specified]; Interest of Rose Hale becomes absolute, and vested in Rowland Hale then William Hale; 15 Nov 1675 William Hale assigns property and judgement in penal sum of £8000 to Sir George Downing for £5550.
2a. Between Sir John Jacob of Bromley and Robert Chevall of London (Mortgagee) - 13 May 1665 MORTGAGE BY DEMISE FOR 1000 YEARS for £1000 of park called The Grange containing c. 120 acres with Lodge, plus coppice [details given], situate in p. Gamlingay, reputed part of Manor of Shackeden.
2b. Between Sir John Jacob and Robert Hancocke (mortgagee) - 21 Jan 1665/6 MORTGAGE BY DEMISE FOR 1000 YEARS for £500 of said premises in Gamlingay; and ASSIGNMENT OF THE DEMISE for £500 (releasing his condition of Redemption.
Therefore - Michaelmas Term 1669 Robert Hancocke, son and heir, brings case in Chancery against Sir John Jacob and Robert Chevall; 17 June 1670 decree - Robert Hancocke pays to Robert Chevall his debt of £1000 and interest of Chevall is conveyed to Hancocke; if Sir John Jacob fails to pay principal sums to Hancocke, he and heirs debarred from Equity of Redemption; and residues of terms come to be vested in Sir George Downing in consideration of £2400 paid for them.
3. Between Robert Murriel of Cambridge and Edward Lawe of Cambridge - 27 Jan 16 Charles II (1665) MORTGAGE BY DEMISE FOR 500 YEARS for £200 of messuage in p. St Michael, Cambridge [boundaries given] and FURTHER MORTGAGE FOR £50; residue etc comes to Sir George Downing in consideration of £250.
