Biographical / Historical
Richard Henry Tawney (30 November 1880 to 16 January 1962) the celebrated historian was educated at Rugby School and Balliol College. A Fabian and a pillar of the Workers' Educational Authority, he was from 1931 to 1949 Professor of Economic History at the London School of Economics. The correspondence with Frederick Crossfield Happold was initiated by Tawney's review of Happold's 'Citizens in the making' (1935).
