William John Steele was admitted a pensioner at Peterhouse, May 16, 1848. Son of the Rev. James, of Stranorlar, Co. Donegal, Ireland. Born Sept. 16, 1831. [At Glasgow Univ., 1844-7; M.A. 1847.] Matriculated Michaelmas 1848; Scholar, 1849; B.A. (2nd Wrangler and 2nd Smith's prize) 1852. Fellow, 1854. A successful private tutor. Author (with P. G. Tait), 'A Treatise on the Dynamics of a Particle'. Died in College, Mar. 11, 1855, of consumption; buried in Little St Mary's churchyard. (T. A. Walker, 495.) Peter Guthrie Tait (28 April 1831 - 4 July 1901) was admitted as a pensioner at Peterhouse on 21 June 1847. Only son of John, deceased, of Dalkeith, previously Private Secretary to the Duke of Buccleuch, (and Mary Ronaldson). Born at Dalkeith, 28 Apr. 1831.
