Biographical / Historical
Lockyer matriculated from Peterhouse in 1923, took a second class in the Mechanical Sciences Tripos in 1925 as a commisssioned officer, and proceeded M.A. in 1936. J. M. Dodds Student for research in aeronautics, and John Bernard Seely Prize 1925. Served in World War I in the Royal Field Artillery, the Royal Flying Corps and the R.A.F. Wing Commander, 1936. Air Commodore, 1941; acting Air Vice-Marshal, 1944; Chief Instructor Cambridge University Air Squadron, 1936-39; Deputy Director, Directorate of Flying Training, Air Ministry, 1939; Deputy Director of Research and Development, Ministry of Aircraft Production, 1941-43. Bursar and Fellow of Peterhouse 1945 to 1957.
