A later annotation reads: 'These MSS were from the Penn sale, London March 1 1872. Penn, a descendant of William Penn, bo[ugh]t Tho Gray's library [and] lived at the poets house at Stoke Pogis [and] subsequently bo[ugh]t by N??? Ward?? [and] Co at the C.W. Frederickson sale in 1897'.

This memo accompanied a copy of Gray's Elegy written in a country church-yard, third edition, corrected. London: Printed for R. Dodsley in Pall-mall; and sold by M. Cooper in Pater-noster-Row, 1751 (ESTC, T71257). Purchased in auction on behalf of Peterhouse by Christopher Edwards, October 2021.
