Scope and Contents

The series comprises records of the Modern Languages Subject Committee from 1936 to 1997, two sets of transcriptions of listening comprehension test examinations between 1984 and 2000, and examination publications from 1987 to 1998.
Although the Subject Committee administrational records start with meeting in May 1936, the meeting of February 1945 was designated as the first meeting. After 1945 meetings of the Committee were usually held twice a year.

Arrangement

S/ML 1/6 had previously been catalogued as S/IGCSE. Both S/ML 1/6 and S/ML 1/7 have been catalogued according their original arrangement with S/ML 1/6 arranged by date and then language, and S/ML 1/7 arranged by language and then by qualification and date.

Accruals

Three boxes of transcriptions of Listening Comprehension tests were added to the collection in 2016, and comprise two discrete series, S/ML 1/6 and 1/7. S/ML 1/6 comprises IGCSE and GCE transcriptions of French, German, Italian and Spanish papers only. S/ML 1/7 comprises a later deposit of transcriptions of Dutch, French, German, Italian, Panjabi and Spanish papers at various levels. Four boxes of examination publications and teacher support material were also incorporated into this series in 2016 and comprise S/ML 2.
