Scope and Contents

"The Schools in the Cloud" was an event exploring the ways in which technology can transform the fundamentals of education and assessment. The event was held at the British Library in London on 11 February 2014. It was attended by more than 100 people, with many more participating from around the world through online streaming. Speakers included: Sugata Mitra, Professor of Educational Technology, University of Newcastle; Lord David Puttnam CBE, film producer and chairman of Atticus Education; Dr Nick Saville, Director of Research & Validation, Cambridge English Language Assessment; Christine Swan, Director of ICT and Enterprise, The Stourport High School and Sixth Form Centre; Clive Beale, Director of Educational Development, Raspberry Pi; Mike Feerick, CEO, ALISON (Advance Learning Interactive Systems Online); Russell Beale, Professor of Human-Computer Interaction, University of Birmingham (representing Futurelearn); Dr Helen Eccles, Director - Development, Cambridge International Examinations; Pat Glass MP, Labour MP for North West Durham; Siôn Humphreys, Policy Advisor, National Association of Headteachers (NAHT); and Nick Jones, Principal, Twickenham Academy.
