Inscription by John Gage: 'The original MS from which this transcript has been made by the permission of Henry Howard Esqre of Corby was given, in 1837, by the Exors of Charles, late Duke of Norfolk, to the College of Arms. It was purchased by the Duke of Norfolk at Ives' sale'. The MS is now College of Arms, Suffolk collections vols 7-10. The transcribed title is dated 28 APR 1725. The transcribed title is 'Z Vol. I (X) E lib: Fran: Blomefield de Fersfield Norf 1722'

With a note by Charles Devon, 15 JAN 1838, 'The accompanying curious MS I have selected from a small Suffolk collection belonging to my late friend Caley' [John Caley (1760-1834)], from which Gage was free to make transcripts.

4 volumes, uniformly bound, marbled boards with leather spines tooled and gilt, each with John Gage's book-plate: heraldry, monuments and inscriptions in Suffolk churches, transcribed from MSS of Thomas Martin (1697-1771) and Francis Blomefield (1705-52).

Scope and Contents From the Fonds: The collection consists of a mixture of family and estate papers relating to the Hengrave Hall estate, owned by the Kitson and Gage families, alongside antiquarian records collected by two members of the Gage family in the early 19th century. There is also a small collection of records relating to the Rookwoods of Coldham Hall, who married into the Gage family in the 19th century.
