Correspondents include: Brendan Bracken suggesting an agreement with the Daily Mail which would be financially beneficial to WSC (5); various staff of the Daily Mail including William McWhirter, Donald Bradfield and Robert Prew; Esmond Harmsworth [later 2nd Lord Rothermere on aspects of the arrangement with WSC including exclusivity (5).Also includes copies of letters from WSC on his accident involving a motor car in New York [United States] and on his friendship with David Lloyd George.

Letter from Lady Randolph Churchill, Banstead, to WSC, sending £1 and complaining about the state of his finances, also on his toothache, complaining that he had had another tooth out ".

Letter from "M" [Montagu Porch] (8 Cyprian's House, Coomassie, The Gold Coast [later Ghana]) to [Lady Randolph Churchill] in which he expresses relief at a telegram from WSC on her improved health; says that he intends to ensure that she receives the best care; reports on his successful business interests associated with a railway and encloses a map of its location [see CHAR 28/133/6]; discusses financial affairs and promises that he will never be angry with her. Envelope present.

Letter from WSC (4th Hussars, Aldershot [Surrey]) to "Jack" [John S Churchill] on subjects including: his arrival at Aldershot and a dinner as a guest of the mess on the first night which put him at ease; the "terribly severe business" of the riding school and the pain he is suffering; details of his daily routine, responsibilities and his servant; and news that he has been gazetted and will receive 120 pounds per year pay. Letter from [Lady Randolph Churchill](2 Connaught Place [London]) to [Lord Randolph Churchill] discussing the possibility that she may meet him in Monte Carlo [Monaco]; expressing concern about the expense; saying that she will be glad to see him; the opinion of Dr Laking about her recovery [from typhoid]; the possibility that Mrs [Lily] Langtry may divorce; and a pantomime which WSC and "Jack" [John S Churchill] visited during which a poodle was introduced as "Lord Randolph Churchill".

Letter from [Frances, Duchess of Marlborough] (50 Grosvenor Square [London]) to Jennie [Lady Randolph Churchill] in which she discusses the health of [Lord Randolph Churchill] and the high expenses of their travels, she suggests that Jennie should consider cutting down on the number of servants, reports on the wedding of Frances [Wimborne] and gives news of WSC and says that she has been obliged to check him as he needs a "firm hand".

Letter from [Frances, Duchess of Marlborough] (Canford [Wimborne, Dorset]) to Jennie [Lady Randolph Churchill] in which she discusses the health of "R" [Lord Randolph Churchill] and says that she hopes that he will be "prudent & docile"; gives news of "Jack" [John S Churchill] and WSC; discusses financial affairs and a bill from the Munro Club and the abscondment of Healy, a servant.

Letter from WSC ([Harrow School, Middlesex]) to "Mummy" [Lady Randolph Churchill] informing her that his toothache has gone, asking after "poor Grandmamma Duchess" [Frances, Duchess of Marlborough] and requesting that she should send him money for subscriptions Annotated "Hurrah for Nunthorpe" [a racehorse which had won the Great Jubilee Stakes at Kempton Park races].

Letter from WSC (Hotel du Bar, Grindelwald [Switzerland]) to "Mamma" [Lady Randolph Churchill] describing his impressions of the scenery, reporting that he and "Jack" [John S Churchill] are being economical and that the rules for the Sandhurst entrance examination have been changed. He asks her to write and tell him how "Papa" [Lord Randolph Churchill] is and says that he is looking forward to her return.
