An ostrich farm, 1899 - 1900
219 x 166 mm. Showing a troop of ostriches on C.D. Charlwood's farm at Graaff Reinet, with a figure seated in a ponycart in the foreground. By 1891 Graff Reinet was the sixth largest producer of ostrich feathers in the colony, although the trade has now completely disappeared from the area. The print is signed 'Roe W Phor.'

Graaff Reinet from the mountain top, 1880 - 1889
382 x 282 mm. A view looking eastwards over the neatly laid out streets of Graaff Reinet, with the Sundays River curving round the town and Spandau Kop in the background. The three most prominent strets seen here, running east-west, are Somerset Street, Middel Street and West Street. The print is signed 'W. Roe Photo' and has the following caption, written in calligraphy: 'Graaf Reinet, from the mountain top.'
The Club, Graaff Reinet, 1880 - 1889

With Spandau Kop in the background. The Graaff Reinet club was established in 1876; the building seen here in Church Square which still serves as the clubs's premises, was built in 1881.

This photograph appears to be mirrored. The negative from which this print has been made had the signature of W. Roe etched on the bottom left hand corner; now it appears in reverse.
