Inside the front cover of the album is written: 'Taken by Wilfred Powell, Deputy Commissioner for the Western Pacific of Samoa,' but the photographs were probably also taken by members of his family - and by the commercial photographer J. Material collected by Powell on the death of General Edward Braddock (1695-1755), who was mortally wounded at Monongahela on 9 July 1755 while in command of the British forces in North America during the French and Indian War of 1754-1763, part of the Seven Years' War. A marble monument was erected over his grave site in Great Meadows, Pennsylvania, in 1913, an event which was attended by Powell in his capacity as Consul for Pennsylvania.
