Scope and Contents A photocopy of a report in Maori by Parakaia Te Pouepa of a meeting of chiefs from Manawatu (Palmerston North), Waikanae, Otaki, Ngati Toa of Porirua, Waikato and Te Arawa (Roturua area) at Otaki on 17 September 1861. The meeting discussed the setting up of a Maori King in the Waikato Area. Most of the chiefs were opposed to this idea, and accepted Queen Victoria's representative, Colonel Thomas Gore Browne, as the chief of the country. Scope and Contents

A half length studio portrait of Grey seating resting an arm on a table. Grey (1812-1898) was commissioned into the army in 1829. He made two journeys of exploration in Australia in 1837 and 1839, and was Governor of South Australia 1841-1845; of New Zealand 1846-1854 and 1861-1867; and of the Cape of Good Hope 1854-1861. From 1870-1894 he lived in New Zealand and was Prime Minister 1877-1879. Another copy of this print can be found at Y3011T/10. Photograph probably by Frederick York.

Scope and Contents 70 x 92 mm. Oval print. Three quarter length portrait of Sir Edward George Grey seated with his elbow resting on a table. Grey entered the Army in 1829 and spent periods of exploration in Australia in 1837 and 1839-40. He was Lieutenant Governor of South Australia 1841-45, Governor of New Zealand 1846-54 and 1861-67, Governor of the Cape of Good Hope 1854-61 and Prime Minister of New Zealand 1877-79.
