80 x 129 mm. A three quarter length portrait showing Sir Ernest Birch standing in a field with a shotgun under his arm. Sir Ernest Birch (1857-1929) was the son of James Birch, the first British Resident in Perak., and served in the Malayan Civil Service from 1878-1910. He served as British Resident, Negri [i.e. Negeri] Sembilan 1897-1900, Governor of Labuan 1901-1904 and British Resident, Perak 1904-1910. A portrait probably taken in England.
