Scope and Contents Volume of poems, in French, by Jean Baptiste Louis Gresset (1709-77), poet, dramatist, with English translation in rhyming couplets, apparently by Sir Thomas Rookwood Gage (c.1720-96), 5th Baronet. The handwriting of the whole volume, except for the French original of The living desk, is identified in an inscription on the first page, by Sir Thomas Rokewode Gage, dated 1848. The introduction 'To the reader' says that J.B.L. Gresset, a French Jesuit, was banished from his order for composing...
