Pierre Ricomet was born on 14 July 1878 in Bonnes, south-western France, the son of Théodore Ricomet and Aime DeSages. He enlisted in the French army in 1899 and served in Algeria from October 1900 to September 1901. His occupation at the time of enlistment was as a 'scieur de long'. He was called up in August 1914 and served in the 9e régiment d'infanterie territoriale in 1918.
