Biography
Ralph Hammond Innes (1913-98), writer (of novels and travel books as Hammond Innes, of children's book, Ralph Hammond), wrote a series of best-selling 'adventure stories', from Wreckers must breathe (1941) to Delta connection (1996). The stories, set in far-flung places, were written after meticulous research and a visit to the relevant location. He was a noted arboriculturalist, and planted over a million trees on properties in Kersey, Suffolk, Wales and Australia. Innes married actress and writer Dorothy Mary Lang (d.1989) in 1937.
