Biography

Richard Gerard de Visme Thomas (1848-1900), law student at Inner Temple 1870, called to the Bar 1875; was private secretary to Major-General Sir Frederick Goldsmid (1818-1908) during his expedition to Persia and Tehran, 1871-72.

32 letters from Thomas to his family, 1871-72; MS essay 'Persia – a buffer state'. [1-32] Letters from de Visme Thomas to members of his family, l4 NOV 1871 to 22 JUN 1872, while private secretary to Goldsmid during the expedition to survey and negotiate settlement of Perso-Afghan and Perso-Baluch border questions.
