Note from Commander Charles Thompson [Personal Assistant to WSC] to CSC, on gossip in Westerham [Kent] about a proposed visit to Chartwell by WSC, undertaking to tell the Military Authorities to ensure that the Chartwell Guard were warned not to gossip, pointing out that the information must have come from the staff at Chartwell, and that the staff should not mention such visits, even to the Guard; also on an extractor for the kitchen at Chartwell.

Note from CSC to Commander Charles Thompson [Personal Assistant to WSC], stating that the town of Westerham [Kent] was "seething" with the news that WSC would be spending the weekend at Chartwell, and that there was considerable disappointment when only she arrived; asking him to ensure that the Company Commander instructed his men not to discuss any proposed visit in the public houses and canteen in Westerham [initialled by CSC].

Letter from Kathleen Hill [Secretary to WSC] to Brigadier Charles Hertzberg, Chief Engineer, 7th Corps, on camouflage at Chartwell [Kent]. [Carbon].

Letter from Brigadier Charles Hertzberg, Chief Engineer, 7th Corps, to Maryott Whyte, on camouflage at Chartwell [Kent], confirming that work on alteration of the ponds had been completed and that they had been made useless for the guidance of aircraft by night [annotated by WSC].

Note from Kathleen Hill [Secretary to WSC] to Commander Charles Thompson [Personal Assistant to WSC], news that WSC had been invited to lunch with the Canadian Division at Leatherhead [Surrey], also that the Canadian Engineers had been camouflaging the swimming pool and draining the lakes at Chartwell [Kent]. Note by Kathleen Hill [Secretary to WSC], reporting a conversation between Maryott Whyte and the Chief Engineer, 7th Corps, on camouflage at Chartwell [Kent], particularly attempts to camouflage the middle pool, which was taking much time and labour, confirming that they would obtain WSC's permission before draining it.

Minute from WSC to Maryott Whyte, on camouflaging of Chartwell [Kent], instructing that the reservoir on the hill should be drained, but not the reed bed beside it, that the swimming pool should be camouflaged, that the middle pool could only be emptied by siphoning, on no account should the penstock be opened, and that water could be let out of the biggest of the three lakes, but that care should be taken to prevent fish from escaping.
