Letter from [Henry, 5th Lord] Lansdowne [Secretary of State for War](War Office) to Lady Randolph [Churchill] in which he informs her that Sir Frederick Carrington is managing operations in South Africa and that the War Office is not able to find an appointment for WSC and suggests that WSC should leave the country during the enquiry concerning the 4th Hussars.

Letter from George [Lord] Curzon [later Lord Curzon of Kedleston] (Strathpeffer [Ross and Cromarty, Scotland]) to Jennie [Lady Randolph Churchill] in which he congratulates her on WSC's escape [from the Boers] and says that he does not think that he will be able to appoint [George] Cornwallis-West.

Letter from [Sir] Francis Knollys [Private Secretary to Albert Edward, Prince of Wales] (Marlborough House, Pall Mall [London]) to Lady Randolph Churchill reminding her to give the Prince details of the people she thinks should be awarded the Order of St John of Jerusalem and congratulating her on her forthcoming marriage [to George Cornwallis-West].

Letter from [Sir] Francis Knollys [Private Secretary to King Edward VII] (Windsor Castle) to Lady Randolph Churchill informing her that Mrs Ronald has been awarded the Order of St John of Jerusalem for her work on the hospital ship Maine, commenting on the "heat-burnings" which surround honours and reassuring her that she need not thank the King.

Letter from [2nd Lord] Selborne (Blackmoor, Wiss [Hampshire]) to Mrs Cornwallis-West [Lady Randolph Churchill] informing her that the medical staff on the hospital ship Maine were commanded by the War Office and advising her to write to [Sir John] Brodrick regarding medals for them.
