Scope and Contents During the Second World War, Earl was commissioned to prepare a series of pastel portraits of service men and women from what were then British dominions and colonies (described as 'Empire servicemen'), including Trinida, Newfoundland, Southern Rhodesia [i.e. Zimbabwe] and Ceylon [i.e. Sri Lanka]. "Raubstaat England", loosely translated as the Robber State of England or the Criminal State of England, was one of a series of so-called "cigarette books" into which illustrated cigarette cards were pasted. It is a work of German propaganda about the British Empire. This example contains a full set of illustrations.
