RGO and Aston University Hewitt Camera Project: papers, 1978 - 1986
Series
Reference Code: GBR/0180/RGO 98
Scope and Contents
In 1975 the Science Research Council approved proposals from the Universities of Aston and Leicester for a new UK programme of optical tracking of satellites for geodetic analysis. The Hewitt Camera near Evesham (later referred to as 'the Malvern site') was initially manned by the Ordnance Survey and the SRC proposed that a second observing team from the University of Aston would also participate in the tracking. The Ordnance Survey, however, stopped using the Malvern Hewitt Camera in 1976...

Series
Reference Code: GBR/0180/RGO 93
Scope and Contents
Laser ranging is one of the most accurate techniques for observing orbits of artificial satellites. The state-of-the-art Satellite Laser Ranging System (SLR) at RGO Herstmonceux began operations in October 1983 and is considered one of the best installations of its kind worldwide. As part of the International Laser Ranging Service (ILRS), the data obtained with the RGO’s SLR system is made available to researchers worldwide within 1-2 hours. On average during the year the SLR system observes...
