Scope and Contents

Correspondence with or concerning staff members of the Royal Observatory on active war service, covering pay, changes of address, commissions, operations, demobilisation and re-employment. There letters are foliated in one sequence, beginning with volumes for 1914-1916 and 1916-1918, and concluding with an envelope of loose letters for 1918-1919. The volumes have been incorrectly bound as part of the series of Annual Visitation Official Correspondence (formerly A6).

The final page and back fly leaf have annotations which include a table of calculations. A letter from Captain F.A. Osbourn, The Royal Army Medical Corps (2 D.A.C., B E 7) to [Edward Walter Maunder, no place given], 7 September 1916, was enclosed and is now stored in a separate envelope. Captain Osbourn was at the frontline, using 'The Stars as Guides for Night Marching', and felt Maunder should advertise the book more.
