Correspondence on military service, 1914 - 1919
Correspondence with or concerning staff members of the Royal Observatory on active war service, covering pay, changes of address, commissions, operations, demobilisation and re-employment. There letters are foliated in one sequence, beginning with volumes for 1914-1916 and 1916-1918, and concluding with an envelope of loose letters for 1918-1919. The volumes have been incorrectly bound as part of the series of Annual Visitation Official Correspondence (formerly A6).
Edward Walter Maunder, 'The Stars as Guides for Night Marching' (Charles H. Kelly; London, 1916), 1916
The final page and back fly leaf have annotations which include a table of calculations. A letter from Captain F.A. Osbourn, The Royal Army Medical Corps (2 D.A.C., B E 7) to [Edward Walter Maunder, no place given], 7 September 1916, was enclosed and is now stored in a separate envelope. Captain Osbourn was at the frontline, using 'The Stars as Guides for Night Marching', and felt Maunder should advertise the book more.
