Scope and Contents Writing from the Academic Assistance Council in the Royal Society, Adams sends an agenda for a meeting and writes about the speakers. Austen Chamberlain wants there to be no implication of hostility towards Germany in the speeches and preferably no reference to Germany; Rutherford has also wished to keep the meeting apolitical. The four societies combining in the appeal do not intend the assistance to be solely for refugees from one country as is the case with other societies. No dinner...

Scope and Contents In reply to the previous letter [Mark Oliphant] writes to Walter Adams that Oskar Heil is not a Jew and it is not for thar reason he wishes to spend a year in the Cavendish. Heil is of independent means and has been accepted by the Laboratory. Frau [Agnesa Arsenjewa] Heil is Russian and that is the reason for the difficulty with the Home Office.
