Scope and Contents
Correspondence regarding political issues concerning the region in which Henry Waugh & Co. Ltd and its successors conducted business, including Brunei, the Federation of Malaya, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore and Thailand. The correspondence is comprised of originals and copies of letters to Matheson & Co. Ltd and copies of other letters. There are also many related papers, including press articles and monthly political and economic reports on the region.

The collection is comprised of twelve large numbered green box-files of monochrome photographs (the majority mounted on boards) of Japan and the Pacific islands. Around eighty percent of the photographs were taken during the voyage of the 'Marchesa'; the remainder probably date from the late 1870s, including photographs purchased by Guillemard, which include many of the smaller images in the collection.
