The diary (59 leaves) describes Christy's travels in India after he resigned his civil medical appointment at Satara on 26 June, and while he was seeking other work. He visited Bombay, Agra, Simla, Lahore and Quetta. It also includes 11 pages of clinical notes.

Satara was the former home of the titular heads of the Mahratta Empire, although power was not wielded from there, and these are probably the ruins of an old fort or palace connected with the dynasty.
